Here's exactly what information GradeGrow collects, why we collect it, and how you stay in control of it.
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and role (parent, student, teacher, or school admin). Students and schools may also provide information such as school name, class/grade level, assignments, and academic performance data (grades, scores, and progress history).
If you scan or upload schoolwork, that image and any text extracted from it is stored so you and your child can review feedback later.
We collect the account and schoolwork info needed to actually run the app — nothing more.
GradeGrow requests camera access to let you scan assignments and homework, and microphone/speech-recognition access to power voice-to-text practice features. These permissions are only used when you actively choose to scan a document or use a voice feature, and can be revoked at any time in your device Settings.
Camera and mic access only turn on when you tap the scan or voice-practice button — never in the background.
To generate feedback, grading suggestions, and personalized learning content, scanned assignments and related text may be processed by Google's Gemini AI models. This data is sent solely to generate your results and is not used by GradeGrow to train our own models.
Your child's schoolwork is sent to Google's AI to generate feedback — that's how the grading and suggestions get made.
We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (provided by Google) to understand how the app is used and to diagnose crashes. This includes device information, app events (such as screens viewed and features used), and diagnostic logs. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify your child individually.
We use standard analytics tools to see what's working and to catch bugs faster.
Subscriptions and credit purchases are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. GradeGrow never sees or stores your payment card details. We only receive confirmation of your purchase (such as the plan or credit pack bought) so we can activate the corresponding features on your account.
Apple and Google handle your card details — we just get told "this account bought this plan."
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us run the app — including Google/Firebase (hosting, analytics, crash reporting, AI processing) and Apple/Google (app stores and payments) — and only to the extent needed for them to provide their service to us. If your account is affiliated with a school, teachers and school administrators at that school may see relevant student progress data as part of the school's use of the Service.
No selling your data, ever. It only goes to the tools we use to run the app, or to your own school if you're on a school account.
GradeGrow is designed to be used by students under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or school. As explained in our Terms of Service, a parent, guardian, or school administrator must consent to a child's use of the Service and to the collection of the information described in this policy. Parents and guardians can review, update, or request deletion of their child's information at any time by contacting us.
A parent or school signs off before a child's data is collected, and can ask us to delete it whenever they want.
Your data is stored on secured servers and encrypted in transit. We retain account and academic data for as long as your account is active, so your progress history stays available. Records of AI processing requests (see Section 3) are automatically deleted after 90 days once complete. You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes your personal data from our systems except where we're required to retain limited records for legal or fraud-prevention purposes.
Delete your account in Settings and your data goes with it, with very few legal exceptions. AI request logs clear themselves out after 90 days either way.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can access, export, or delete most of this directly in the app's Settings ("Download My Data" and "Delete Account"), or by contacting us at the email below for anything Settings doesn't cover.
It's your data. Download it or delete it yourself from Settings any time, or ask us and we'll help.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect.
If anything important changes, we'll tell you before it applies.
